The Truth About Low-Carb Diets and Your Health

Low-carb diets have been extremely popular in recent years. They boast large weight loss, which is a major selling point in society today. Everyone wants to lose a large amount of weight, and fast. Low-carb diets will make you lose weight, but are they really healthy?
The logic behind low-carb diets is that an increase in carbohydrates raises blood sugar and insulin levels, leading to a weight gain. By decreasing intake of carbohydrates, blood sugar and insulin levels will decrease, leading to weight loss. What is left out is how you are supposed to get the nutrients and vitamins your body needs without certain foods. A low-carb diet is good in the sense that it cuts out sugar and refined carbohydrates, but it also leads to a lack of dietary fiber, and deficiencies of several essential vitamins and nutrients.
The South Beach Diet and the Atkins Diet are two of the most popular low-carb diets around today. Each has a different approach to weight loss.
The South Beach Diet
The South Beach Diet works on three phases, and focuses on eating the “right” carbs and the “right” fats. Phase one eliminates most carbs for two weeks. This is to allow your body to get used to not having them. Phase two reintroduces some carbs, and this phase lasts until your target weight is achieved. Phase three introduces a wider variety of foods, and phase three lasts for life.
The downsides to this diet are that the first two weeks require a lot of willpower, because your body has been used to having those extra carbohydrates, and now it has none. People on this diet can sometimes experience weakness and shakiness because of the lack of carbs. As stated before, The South Beach Diet is supposed to allow you to lose 8-13 pounds in phase one. This is extremely unhealthy, and probably more due to the water weight that comes off and not the diet of low-carbs. Phase one bans fruits and vegetables, so for the first two weeks of the diet, you are missing out on important vitamins and nutrients, a similar problem found in the Atkins Diet.
The Atkins Diet
The Atkins Diet has limitation of carbs similar to The South Beach Diet. The Atkins Diet contains four phases, and all of them require a calculation of a certain number of grams of carbohydrates. This diet encourages you to eliminate sugar from your diet and usually requires frequent meat consumption. The meat consumption immediately eliminates vegetarians and vegans from taking part in the diet. The Atkins Diet is high in saturated fats and cholesterol due to the amount of meat that is eaten.
Much like The South Beach Diet, the Atkins Diet will allow you to successfully lose weight. However, many key nutrients and vitamins are being cut out on this diet. This diet is low on fiber and will lead to deficiencies of calcium, potassium, and magnesium.
You will and can lose weight on both of these diets. However, keeping the weight off is another story. Since these diets restrict many foods, staying on them is extremely difficult. Staying on them can also lead to health issues such as osteoporosis because of the continuous lack of nutrients and vitamins. Taking a daily supplement while on either of these diets can help offset the deficiencies. The best way to lose weight and keep it off is to eat a balanced diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains and keep up with an exercise program. This plan is easy, healthy, and good for the long term.

Macrobiotics: Tips and Advice on Starting a Macrobiotic Diet

It is always not so easy starting out on something that will radically change your lifestyle, most especially when it becomes a part of your regimen. Switching to macrobiotic diet is not that tough. As long as you have the will and determination to do it. Macrobiotics is actually just using our commonsense to eating. Macrobiotics is a sensible alternative to the over processed and devitalized foods that are available in the market and fast foods.

Macrobiotic diet focuses on these balancing acts of intakes. Yin foods, among other things are ones that grow in warm climate, foods that contain more water. While Yang foods are ones that grow in cold climate and are dryer. Remember “Taking all things in moderation”? “Anything excessive or too much is bad”? Macrobiotics is focusing on eliminating unbalanced diet and promoting higher well being, it also teaches us to chew our food completely and eat only when hungry.

Some food that we have gotten used to are strictly prohibited in macrobiotics, because as we say, it is unbalanced in its own way. They are extreme. Either too sweet or too salty, hence junk foods. Foods that you should stay away from are chocolates, candies and soda, refined foods such as white sugar or flour, processed food such as sardines, corned beef, and other canned food, tropical fruits, poultry and dairy products, eggs, butter, caffeinated products specially coffee, and other products that has preservatives in it.

But there are so many benefits of macrobiotics that changing your taste bud preference is worth it. If paired together with exercise, such as yoga, macrobiotic diet can make you lose weight dramatically, because this diet is rich in fiber and low in saturated fat and reduces the risk of diseases that is associated with fats such as heart attacks and strokes, heart diseases and high cholesterol. Although not proven yet, macrobiotics helps and even prevents AIDS and cancer. Of course it’s a rule of a thumb that a healthy diet and healthy lifestyle leads to a disease free life, as our body has it’s own self heal properties, and all we have to do is to activate our body’s immune system to perform well it’s duties by cleansing him of all the impurities we fed him in years of our lives.

Macrobiotic diet is not a medicine to cure your onset illness but a lot of illnesses are brought about by wrong diet and excessive intakes of unnecessary food in our body, thereby resulting into branches of different complications and sickness, correcting all of these and switching to a more sensible and balanced diet such as macrobiotic diet and lead a healthy lifestyle together with exercise can surely shun away troubles brought about by modern day diseases. A complete turn around of diet means a complete turn around of illness into wellness. Macrobiotic diet is a way of life.

What is a Raw Foods Diet?

What is a Raw Foods Diet?

Taken from the book Mini Size Me – The Raw Yoga Revolution“Let me share my vision with you; I see the world without sickness, sorrow or mental disturbances in which we are living in perfect balance and abundant health and harmony.” Dr Ann Wigmore Phd (Co-Founder of the Hippocrates Institute)I couldn’t of said that better myself. I, too share this vision, and I hope that at the end of reading this article , you may be inspired to actually taste this experience for yourselves. So how do you feel right now? Take a few minutes to close your eyes and tune in to your body with a few breaths. Allow yourself to sense how you truly feel. Do you feel a lively and vibrant superhero?  Or a lethargic, tired and heavy frump that is low on energy, or maybe you are just somewhere in between? If your answer is Superhero, it’s likely that you have already taken steps towards aligning your diet with an intake of sun-filled, energy-drenched fresh green nutrition. Which is an excellent start!   But if the answer is frump, there is no need to despair.  This is where a raw food diet will deliver the medicine, the methods and the manifestation that you require to step into the YOU, that you know is inside, just bursting to get out.If on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 = zero energy, while 10 = superhero) you feel about 6 or less, then a raw food diet will shake your foundations  and raise your rafters into a whole, new, fresh level of vitality and health. At the very least you could gain a few more super powers through this super improved diet.So what is a raw foods diet and why would you make an effort?  What are the benefits? Can I still have a take away on Saturdays? The optimum choice would be no. But wouldn’t you like to be free from the desire for it, if you knew it delivers you no favors?  Read on to find out the expanded benefits of a raw lifestyle.Firstly, the raw lifestyle is a great choice for all those out there who know that inside each of us is a seed of massive life force, and want to tap into it. Layers of disbeliefs, mental blockages, emotional pains, combined with poor nutrition are preventing the full ignition of your life and transformation into Superb Health.I see raw foods as the best available fuel for the fire of your life. So what are Raw Foods?Lets jump right in and go exploring.Access Exceptional EnergyOur average diet is food diminished by cooking and cut short of the essential enzymes for healthy digestion. Raw foods are nature’s healers, flooded with sunlight, filled to brim with minerals and bountiful with active enzymes. These foods are still alive! Please re-read that sentence.  You will be eating food that contains abundant energy within its cellular structure and growing rich with the vital life force known as ‘prana,’ the fuel source of all living things.   Could you say the same for the frozen pizza at the back of the fridge, or perhaps a pot noodle? That is why, when on a raw foods diet nothing is heated beyond 37 degrees, which is the same temperature as our bodies.  Above 37 degrees, you will start to kill off all enzyme activity, and deplete the life-force within the food.  We need to eat this food while it is bursting with life.  It is at this stage that we soak up the life-force from the food to harness its qualities and send it around our bodies.  Rather than siphon our own internal energy to digest the already ‘dead’ food. When we say dead food, we are referring to the standard cooked diet that usually depletes our energy, ultimately resulting in disease and impaired old age.  Some examples of raw foods are fresh fruit and vegetables, that are ideally grown in your own garden. Also within this diet there are sprouted foods (alfalfa and mung beans) nuts, seeds, seaweeds and now the ever popular ’superfoods’.  Hippocrates, an ancient Greek philosopher and the founder of modern medicine, sums up the benefits beautifully: “So let thy food be thy medicine, and thy medicine be thy food.” Upping your intake of raw is choosing radiant life!Return to NatureA raw lifestyle is a move towards eating as nature intended. Raw foods are foods in their natural unprocessed state, un-treated with heat to prepare them for eating.  Today, so many of our food (fuel) sources are heavily processed, filled with chemicals and soaked in sugar. These foods lead to addictions, dependencies and cravings. What many people do not understand is that disease incubates over time. If, on a daily basis we continue to consume un-natural foods,  we are supporting a future of disease rather than a future of health. Raw plant prana is nature’s gift for rejuvenation. Reduction of Excess FatPeople are often interested in raw plant foods for its massive weight loss potential, as there are many recorded accounts of stunning physical transformations when going  ‘Raw’.  David Wolfe, one of the world’s leading authorities on Raw Foods says: “No amount of raw plant food is fattening. Only cooked food is fattening.”  Does this mean bland and unsatisfying food? Not at all!  You couldn’t be further from the truth.  The great news is that some raw fats e.g. avocados can actually help excess weight dissolve. Plus, by embarking on a natural raw plant lifestyle,  any weight that is lost, will stay off,  as nature returns you to the true weight and shape for you.Brilliant Skin and Great Long LifeThe benefits of going raw and staying raw are  endless! You’ll enjoy a clear and glowing complexion, bright shiny eyes, increased libido and beautiful, lustrous hair and nails. People who have experienced acne have found that detoxifying their diet brings dramatic improvements including fewer blemishes.   All who go ‘raw’ will have stunning skin and hair.  Try it and see for yourself.  In today’s western world, the average age expectancy for males is 65,  70 for females, but there is endless evidence to show that a raw diet can greatly extend your lifespan. Dr. Howell a world renown Nutritionist , states that: “Humans eating an enzyme-less diet use up a tremendous amount of their enzyme potential in lavish secretions of the pancreas and other organs, resulting in a short lifespan 65 years rather than 100 or more.”Every living being has a fixed enzyme potential which can be prematurely exhausted in a large way through eating cooked and processed foods.  Raw plant foods come complete with such massive amounts of live enzymes that you don’t need to use up your “enzyme store” to digest them.  We will talk about enzymes later.Thorough Body and Mind DetoxBy going raw you give your body the best chance to offload all those toxins created over years of a cooked, processed diet and stressful living. What we eat profoundly affects the way we think, feel and behave. Life shifts come from changes within. When you take in only pure, natural and healthy foods, you begin to glow within and without. To quote David Wolfe  “We are not really human beings, we are human becomings, because we are constantly becoming more.” A raw food diet can kick start  ‘becoming more’, more wonderful, more physical and much more mental transformation. The Bliss of BalanceTake a simple and easy initial step towards raw foods by supplementing one of your daily meals with a dark green leafy salad and a tasty dressing.  This book promotes the concept that through adding delicious raw alternatives gradually to a standard cooked diet. Both your body and mind will naturally realize the benefits of raw plant foods and develop a preference for these. As you introduce more raw nourishment, you will notice increased life focus, heightened sensory awareness and a greater zest and drive for life.If your idea of Raw is lettuce, tomatoes and a bit of cucumber you are about to be hugely surprised. Learning about raw cuisine is an expansive and fun journey of creativity and experimentation.  Before long, you will be introducing raw nourishment for the healing and vitality of your friends and family. Seeds of ChangeAn optimum raw diet contains a high percentage of sprouted seeds.  Seeds are often seen as symbols of a powerful and vibrant potential for good reason! If you consume the powerful energy of a plant-in-the-making, this high enzyme  vibrancy  transforms into positive fuel  for your present and future  abundant health. The evidence is clear, take a cooked almond seed, plant it in the ground can a tree grow? No way.  Plant a sprouted seed and here you have the potential of an almond tree! Our bodies are so blessed with the prana of living foods.AcidificationAs we began our journey into a raw foods diet we discovered some startling facts and information:? Fat is an over acidification of the body? Fat is saving your life? Fat is a response from the body to an alarming over-acidic condition!Through the absorption of raw foods only we began to understand that we were changing our bodies from acidic into alkaline. This is the first process that kicks in when beginning a raw diet. We need to understand that the body creates fat cells to take away acid from the vital organs. All the acid that has been stored in your fat cells in your body begins to break down and is passed out through all elimination points (bowels, kidney, skin, lungs and nose).  This acid has come from meat, fish, yeast, mushrooms/fungi, (and the waste products of these living organisms) tea, coffee, dairy, alcohol, tobacco and wheat being the main culprits. We realised that we were ingesting the energy from these living fruits and vegetables to restore our whole being.  Our diet was feeding us energy, not depleting it.  We were absorbing the vital life force present in our foods.  This added energy jumpstarted the natural detoxing period that blessedly comes from this Raw Nutrition Diet.We began to experience the detox zone as the acid began to come out. To assist with this vital and necessary phase we began weekly coffee enemas, which we preformed separately in the solitude of our bathroom! Detoxing can reveal itself as spots, colds, lethargy, aches and pains within the body, emotional outbursts, mood swings and sometimes zero energy. We began noticing that the detoxing came in waves, it certainly was not linear. After 6 months we noticed that the sugar cravings had subsided, the urge for coffee and bread didn’t turn us crazy anymore and that we were now sold on this way of life and hungered for more experiments and experiences into how far this supreme radiant health could evolve into.So you have to ask yourself  “How do you truly feel?” What is keeping you from experiencing the lean, healthy and truly energetic body that you deserve?  Are you content to continue feeling lethargic, uncreative and halfhearted in your passions?I suspect not….And neither were we!Benefits of a Raw Food Diet? Increased Vitality? Less sleep required? Shining skin and eyes? Rebuilding your body’s tissues and inner structure? Inherent powers, prime animal instincts and responses? Growth into new direction within your life? Naturalise and neutralise your body? Strips away chemicals and toxins within your body? It compels you to live naturally and in harmony with the Earth? No physical waste – packaging, bones, shells, – only compost!? Pulls acid out of your cellular system? Peels off excessive fat and weight? Cleans your circulatory system? Boost energy in all your inner organs? Balances your hormonal levelsWe are gifted with the intelligence and power to make positive nutritional choices. Too often, we just don’t know how abundant, varied and delicious our food choices could be, leading to choices made through incomplete awareness. Mini Size Me presents you with great trade-ups in food choice and quality that is lush, fresh and fun.The Downside of a Raw LifestyleI have been raw for almost 4 years now, and I can honestly say I have had no bodily reaction to this way of life.  Yes I experienced detoxing at the initial stages and of course, that was a challenging phase to pass through, but the pros massively outweigh the cons.I have only ever discovered 2 main areas of the Raw Challenge:I understand that some people experience coldness in their bodies, and often feel they can’t stay on a raw diet, once the summer has passed.  However, the Director of Lotus Healing in London, Guru Dharam Singh, has advised me that there are certain Chinese herbs that can boost the kidney and spleen energy to prevent one from feeling cold.I have been advising extra chillis, garlic, ginger and cinnamon to boost the internal heat that is felt inside.  Also by boosting the amounts of fats in your diet, you will insulate your internal heat, and keep the cold out as you enter the winter months. The biggest challenge to overcome is naturally the reaction you get from other people who are not raw.  My goodness, you have to be prepared for this one!  It’s quite something how other people react.  Until one is well versed in the benefits of raw, it can be quite a concept to grasp.  Our conditioning is so strong in the belief that we must eat cooked foods that anything else simply is NOT RIGHT.  And that’s about the size of it, when questioned why people don’t believe in a raw foods lifestyle, they simply can’t actually put a finger on a very strong or concrete point. The older generation (parents), really don’t get the idea at first!  My parents particularly my mother, felt I was endangering my health, and she was watching very carefully to see whether her daughter was only to waste away.  Waste away, you got to be joking!  Radiantly bloom into life was the result. But it was difficulty being at home and maintaining a raw regime.  It was a daily chore to redefine my choices and myself.  But over time she came round, and now she looks on and agrees, yes there is a tremendous amount of sense to eating raw.  I have actually overheard her speaking with her friends.  “She only eats salads, and only twice a day, but look at her she obviously knows what she is doing!”With time and as people begin to see and feel the changes within you, they will come round and not only that, they will be curious to find out more. This article has been taken from the soon to be released raw yogic book “Mini Size Me – A Yoga and Nutritional approach to achieve outstanding Health and Vibrancy ”, written by Siri Datta and Duncan Campbell. You can begin a 40-day Raw Food Programme with Siri Datta’s & Duncan’s expert guidance and support.  They will encourage and inspire you to “keep up” all through an online coaching forum.  Alongside raw foods, she will also provide you with a yoga programme tailor made for your type.  Mini Size Me, is the online programme that has sent 1000’s of people soaring to beautiful and radiant levels of confidence and enhanced enchantment.Mini Size Me, also offers 3-day, 7-day, 21-day programmes alongside the Melon Cleanse and the Women’s Moon Cycle.Email Siri Datta on minisizeme23@yahoo.co.uk or call 01935 423 466

Listen Up: Listen Your Way To a Better Diet

The battle against the bulge isnt an easy one. Most people these days are trying to eat healthier but its tough to keep up with the onslaught of diet-related information and to stay motivated to choose nutritious foods. So heres a tip. Listen your way to a better diet.
There are some excellent audio books available on the subject of nutrition. Try popping one of these into your car stereo or listening to them while youre in the kitchen making dinner. Its a great way to learn more about the impact of food on your body. It can also help you to discover new foods and recipes that you might not have been familiar with. And its a great way to stay accountable to a healthier diet. Just try preparing a greasy hamburger while listening to an audio book discussing the health risks of saturated fats!
A great audio book to start with is The South Beach Diet by Arthur Agatson. The South Beach Diet isnt as extreme as some other diets so its a great way to transition into a healthier way of eating. Youll still be able to eat a lot of the foods you enjoy but if youre like many others youll find that the foods that you limit (e.g., refined carbs) will help you to shed pounds quickly.
Another great source of information is the audio books from Dr. Andrew Weil. Weil has written dozens of books on health and many of them are available on audio. I find his dietary recommendations very sensible and enjoy that he views food a source of pleasure (something many diet book writers surprisingly fail to consider). A few recommended Weil titles on audio are Eating Well for Optimum Health, The Healthy Kitchen (with Rosie Daley) and Taking Care of Yourself.
If youre ready to step it up to a notch, you might want to give a listen to Tony Robbins Living Health course. While Tonys dietary recommendations arent the easiest to follow, the alkalinity theory of nutrition that he espouses might well be a breakthrough in the nutrition world. And you certainly cant argue with Tonys energy. The guy is a live wire!
A few other audio books that you might to pick up include Diet for a New America by John Robbins (no relation to Tony), Eat to Beat Cancer by J. Robert Hatherill and Ultraprevention by Mark Hyman and Mark Liponis (the co-directors of medicine at the Canyon Ranch spa). There are also some interesting nutrition-related podcasts out there such as Tracy Jorgs Vegan Cooking School podcast. And dont forget about about Eric Schlossers best-selling audio book Fast Food Nation. If youre looking for some reasons to never eat fast food again youll find them there.
Immerse yourself in a few of these titles and see how your diet changes. Once you discover an enjoyable way to eat better dont be surprised if you never go back to your old ways.

Raw Food Detox Diet

Detox, or detoxification of the body is a common practice many people use in order to rid the body of toxic substances or lose some weight quickly. There are many different ways and many different diets to detox the body. Some of these are the dieuretic diet, the fat flush diet, an all liquid diet, liver cleansing diet and the raw food diet. Certain detox diets may be better for certain people, so it is important to look at each and decide which one would fit your day to day lifestyle the best. The detox diet that I would like to talk about here is the raw food detox diet, also sometimes called foodism. This detox diet is generally made up of fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, grains, dried fruits, herbs and spices that are all eaten raw.

The first thing you will want to do is prepare for the detox. The safest way to do so is to slowly remove the foods that are not allowed during the detox from your day to day diet for a week before you start the full on detox. This means that the first day of preparation you will replace one or two things that you regularly eat during the day with something that is a fruit, vegetable or other food allowed by the detox. By the seventh day, you will have replaced pretty much everything in your regular diet with someone that is allowed in the detox diet. The other thing that you will need to do to prepare is create a menu plan for your detox diet. You will want to make your menu as appetizing as possible for yourself, but don’t expect it to be as good as friend chicken or extra cheesy lasagna. With a little creativity and searching for recipes you can however find some very tasty meals.

Once you have created your menu plan, create a grocery list and go shopping the day before you start the detox. You are now ready to begin your raw food detox diet.

Generally the first couple days of any detox are the hardest days, so it is important to keep any temptations out of sight and as out of mind as possible. It may take a lot of will power but you will find as you are on the detox for longer that it will become easier, and believe me, when you start seeing those results of how much better you feel or how much weight you have lost, you will want to keep the detox going strong.

With the raw food diet it may be a little costly to purchase all of the fruits and vegetables that you will need, but it is important not to skimp or cheat. Some great meals you can make are fresh fruit salads, mixed salads with other various vegetables such as tomatoes, onions, parsley and other dressings, raw mixed vegetable soup, avocado and even raspberry and banana sorbet. You should be able to find these special raw diet recipes as well as many others with just a little searching online. The important thing with a raw food detox diet is that you make a plan and stick with it.

The Vegetarian Diet

The following paragraphs summarize the work of diet experts who are completely familiar with all the aspects of The Vegetarian Diet. Heed their advice to avoid any diet surprises.

If you find yourself confused by what you’ve read to this point, don’t despair. Everything should be crystal clear by the time you finish.

If you’ve been to any large banquets recently, you may have noticed people passing up the prime rib and baked chicken in order to feast on a vegetarian meal. Vegetarianism seems to be gaining in popularity each year, spurred on by health concerns, weight difficulties, and celebrity endorsements. You may find that a vegetarian diet is the key to weight loss in your particular case.

First of all, it is important to define the vegetarian diet. You may be surprised to learn that there are actually a variety of vegetarian diets in use today. In some cases, vegetarians eat only fruits, vegetables, beans, and nuts. In other cases, they may also eat cheese and drink milk, while in still other cases, they may eat eggs.

One of the advantages to the vegetarian diet is that it tends to be low in fat and cholesterol. As a result, a vegetarian diet can help you avoid heart problems and even cancer. However, you may also find that you are missing some important vitamins and minerals on a strictly vegetarian diet.

It has been said that the key to a successful vegetarian diet is planning. You must decide what you will be eating for every meal in order to ensure that you receive the proper nutrients. Otherwise, you may end up starving your body of the nutrients you need in order to be healthy.

A major benefit of the vegetarian diet is that it tends to involve a healthy serving of fruits and vegetables, along with whole grains. However, getting enough protein can be a challenge. Therefore, you might consider adding soy to your diet, which is high in protein content. Another important consideration is iron. You’ll need to make sure that you eat spinach and beans in order to guarantee that you receive enough iron, since you will not be consuming customary sources of iron such as liver and roast beef.

You may need to supplement your diet with vitamins in order to ensure that you receive the appropriate amount of B-12, Vitamin D, calcium, and zinc. Otherwise, you’ll have to load up on cereals, soy milk, spinach, and broccoli. Also, eating a vegetarian diet does not mean you have a license to eat as many sugary foods as you want. You’ll still have to restrict high-calorie foods.

Variety has been called the spice of life and it is also the key to an effective vegetarian diet. You’ll need to eat an array of fruits and vegetables. Also, if you do use dairy, be sure that you choose non-fat or low-fat milk and cheese. Since eggs are rich in cholesterol, you should eat them only in moderation.

Studies have shown that vegetarians tend to consume fewer calories each day than meat-eaters. Also, the body mass index—a tool used to measure obesity—is generally lower for vegetarians than for the population at large. However, as a vegetarian, you will still need to pay attention to portion control and calorie counts. Therefore, while vegetarianism may not be a panacea for weight loss, it can certainly help in the battle against the bulge.

However, it should be noted here that some people mistakenly look upon vegetarianism as a quick fix. They figure that if they give up meat for a couple of weeks, they’ll lose weight. Then, after their trial period is over, they go back to their old eating habits. This is a bad pattern because it encourages yo yo dieting. If you decide to go on a vegetarian diet, it is very important that you stick with it. Otherwise, you may be greatly disappointed in your weight loss progress.

Vegetarianism is not for everyone. However, if you enjoy fruits and vegetables, are non-committal about meat, and are good at planning meals, you may want to go vegan. But if you do not fall into that category, another diet plan may be preferable. Which diet program you ultimately choose may depend greatly upon your personal preferences and what kind of diet regimen you are prepared to follow over the long run. The key to any successful diet is commitment; you must be determined to succeed.

Take time to consider the points presented above. What you learn about The Vegetarian Diet may help you overcome your hesitation to take action.

Wake Up and Roar Part 3 – Superfoods and Raw Chocolate?

Wake up and Roar Part III

By Siridatta www.minisizeme.co.uk

Superfoods & Raw Chocolate? So lets summarise the journey so far: October’s issue we discussed Why to embark on a Raw food lifestyle, where in November’s issue we looked at How to begin and stay with the programme and this issue will reveal some secrets and very exciting wild ideas. In this chapter we will pull back the covers on Longevity and the concept of immortality and siddis’ (super human powers) that develop through this exciting lifestyle.Raw ChocolateAccording to popular research, chocolate is the number one food craved by women.  The worldwide chocolate consumption rate increases 3-4% every year!   Western culture has fallen in love with this amazing substance.  But do we really know why?Chocolate originates from the pure energy of the cacao bean, also known as ‘the food of the gods”.  All chocolate is made from cacao, the seed of the fruit of an Amazonian jungle tree!I invite you to discover, naked chocolate, an entirely new raw experience, true chocolate with all its psychoactive properties, nutrition and brain activators intact, without the heating process! Its time for a Revolution.  First the facts:• Cacao beans were first used as money with the Aztecs and Mayans.• Cacao is one of nature’s super foods, with amazing properties that are destroyed with cooking.• Cacao contains over 300 chemically identifiable compounds• Cacao is remarkably rich in magnesium, which is supportive to the heart, builds strong bones and is associated with happiness• It is the richest source of antioxidants on the planet• Cacao releases the bliss chemical, called Anandamide• Cacao release’s Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAO), youthening and rejuvenation chemistry. • Cacao is nature’s anti-depressant. • Cacao lowers cravings for over-eating• The more you eat, the more you loose weight• Cacao is a natural laxative• Cacao soothes PMS symptoms• Cacao is a natural muscle relaxanatWell, after that list do I need to say any more?  Maybe perhaps these words from James Wadsworth, A Curious History of the Nature and Quality of Chocolate sums it up:“Twill make Old women Young and Fresh;Create New motions of the Flesh; And cause them to long for you know what;If they but taste of chocolate;I have a great friend called Laksmi, who has been experimenting with raw chocolate over the summer. In fact he has only been eating chocolate throughout his entire diet, and he looks amazing. Every day he looks fresher and more vibrant.  So, as if I needed any more excuses I decided to embark on the same “experiment”.  How awful eh?   So in the name of science, I am on a raw chocolate fast, and to date I have experienced vast amounts of energy, in both my body and mind.  Absolutely fresher and more youthful skin and eyes, less sleep is needed and my appetite has been reduced dramatically.  But not my appetite for life, in fact that has trebled.  Not to mention my appetite for lovemaking!!! Well, that has gone out the top of the roof!Growl… Wake UP AND ROAR!!!!!!A Final thought“If we could sniff or swallow something that would, for five or six hours each day, abolish out solitude as individuals, atone with us our fellows in a glowing exultation of affection and make life in all its aspects seem only worth living, but divinely beautiful and significant, and if this heavenly world transforming drug were of such a kind that we could wake up the next morning with a clear head and an undamaged constitution – then, it seems to me, all our problems would be wholly solved and the earth would become paradise”.Aldous Huxley (1894 – 1963)Other SuperfoodsWhat’s this entire craze about superfoods?  Bee pollen, Maca, Cacao, Goji Berries etc….  To the virgin raw fooder these new products can seem daunting and confusing. So lets look at my favourites one at a time and list their properties and my experiences with them.Bee PollenBee pollen is the pollen produced by flowers that honeybees gather and bring back to the hive. Tips For Vegetarian Diet Success

Are you planning to lose weight and would like to try going vegetarian? Statistics show that vegetarians are less at risk from coronary heart disease and some cancers than are meat-eaters. They are also less prone to high blood pressure and strokes.

Here are some tips to help prevent your digestive system from complaining when switching to a vegetarian diet:   Here is a plan to help you avoid this: Week 1. Cut out red meat from your diet, replacing it with fish. Eat one extra portion of vegetables and one portion of whole grains (e.g. cereals, wholemeal bread, rather than just using refined cereals and white bread) a day. Week 2. Cut out poultry, too, this week and cut down on full-fat dairy produce, replacing them with dishes based on pulses. Increase the amount of fruit that you eat to two portions a day, and eat more of your vegetables raw- in salad form. Increase whole grains again and add some nuts and seeds to your diet. Week 3. Cut out, or right down on, full-fat dairy produce, replacing it with low-fat dairy produce and more pulses, nuts and seeds. More tips: -Chew all food thoroughly -Eat slowly -Make sure pulses are thoroughly cooked before eating. Some pulses particularly red kidney beans, are toxic if not boiled for at least 10 minutes before using in your recipe. Canned beans are fine. -Vegetables, fruits and pulses can be pureed to make them more easily digestible. -Don’t peel vegetables and fruit unless absolutely necessary. Buy organic, wash well and scrub if necessary. Adding variety and taste Plant foods are delicious, especially if you buy good quality, fresh food, preferably organic, and if you cook them with a bit of imagination. Fresh or dried herbs and spices, tomato sauces and so on all add flavour and versatility to your meals. It is worth considering buying organic fruits and vegetables. They are guaranteed free from additives, hormones, pesticides, etc. and will help your overall health, long term. Coping with a Lone ‘veggie’ in the family. Whether that ‘veggie’ is you, or another family member, at first it seems like a lot of bother to cook two sets of meals. In fact it needn’t present much extra work at all. For a healthy family you would be well advised to encourage meat-eaters to eat more vegetables and pulses, in any event. Most meat-eaters will welcome one or two vegetarian meals a week- things like pizzas, pasta dishes, curries and so on are ideal as the missing meat is hardly noticed. If you’re eating fish, that’s another two or three meals a week catered for. On the remaining three or so nights you can cook a basic vegetarian meal (a casserole or pie, for instance) and add chicken, lamb fillet, pork tenderloin or so on, to the meat-eater’s portion. Another tip for lone vegetarians is to cook a two-serving portion then freeze the remaining portion for another night. This saves you time, too. A few nutrition notes. Meat replacers. When you give up meat you need to replace the nutrients it provided in your diet. The main ones of importance are protein, iron and B vitamins. Protein is present in a wide variety of vegetarian and demi-vegetarian foods including low-fat dairy, pulses, fish, eggs, protein replacers such as Quorn (made from a mushroom-like substance) and tofu (made from soya beancurd). Many other foods also contain reasonable amounts of protein, such as potatoes and other vegetables, grains, bread, nuts and seeds. A varied diet will ensure adequate protein. In fact, many meat-eaters get far more protein than they need and this can actually have drawbacks. Iron if found in the vegetarian diet in dark leafy greens, some dried fruits, whole grains, pulses, spices, egg yolk and many other foods. Again, a varied diet including plenty of natural wholefoods will ensure a plentiful supply of iron. Another good idea is to eat a vitamin C-rich food (or drink) with each meal to help iron absorption -say, an orange juice with a boiled egg. Some iron-rich foods handily come ready with their own vitamin C- such as dark leafy greens. Also avoid tea and coffee with a meal asy they can hinder absorption. B Vitamins are a group of six vitamins that work together in the body. They are found in varying quantities in a wide variety of foods including whole grains, pulses, nuts, seeds, eggs, vegetables, mushrooms, Marmite and dairy produce. Again, variety and regular meals are the key to adequate B intake. Dairy Replacers. A good vegetarian diet, is one that doesn’t rely too heavily on dairy produce, especially full-fat dairy produce. However, in cutting back on dairy items, you need to be sure to find other good sources of calcium in the diet. Low-fat dairy produce contains as much calcium as high-fat dairy produce, so unless going vegan, don’t give up on low-fat dairy altogether- regular daily skimmed milk and low-fat yogurt is a very good idea, and almost vital for all women and teenagers to help build and keep bone mass and help to prevent osteoporosis. If you don’t eat dairy produce, choose calcium-fortified soya milk and yogurt (some brands aren’t fortified with calcium). Other good sources of calcium are seaweed, tofu, pulses, nuts, leafy greens, dried figs, apricots, muesli and broad beans. White bread is fortified with calcium and so contains more than wholemeal bread- but white bread misses out on the high fibre and vitamin content of wholemeal bread so perhaps a compromise- some white, some wholemeal. Lesser amounts of calcium are found in a variety of other plant foods, so again, it is important to have a varied diet with plentiful supplies of fresh vegetables. If you eat fish, sardines and whitebait are a good source of calcium in the bones. If you are a vegetarian, or going vegetarian, for your health, it may not worry you to eat some items containing animal by-products, e.g. some low-fat yogurts contain gelatine (a by-product of cattle) and many cheeses contain rennet (ditto). All kinds of foods may contain small amounts of non-vegetarian additives, from stock cubes to margarines. But if it does worry you, you need to read labels avidly and ask your supermarket for a list of their products which are vegetarian. Why is a vegetarian diet so healthy? A balanced vegetarian diet relying heavily on plant foods is: High in anti-oxidant vitamins, minerals and other plant chemicals that help protect against disease; these are found in fruits, vegetables, pulses and whole grains High in fibre from fruit, vegetables, pulses and whole grains Low in the saturated fats found in greatest quantities in meat and animal produce Whereas a carnivore diet is often high in saturates and low in fibre, fruit, vegetables, pulses and whole grains. In other words, a vegetarian diet fits in well with international guidelines on healthy eating and disease prevention. Read more from Quick Weight Loss Acclimatise gradually. If your diet has up until now been high in meat and low in plant foods, it is wisest to let your digestive system adapt over a period of 2-3 weeks to a different way of eating. Going from a low-fibre diet to a high one overnight can result in heartburn, wind, stomach cramps and even diarrhoea.

Here is a plan to help you avoid this:

Week 1.

More tips:

-Chew all food thoroughly

-Eat slowly

-Make sure pulses are thoroughly cooked before eating.
