Ensure Your Baby’s Health With Vitamins

One of the most exciting times in a woman’s life is finding that there will be a new life coming their way in nine months.  Although pregnancy is a wonderful phase, it can also be very tricky to ensure the mother-to-be and baby’s health.  Doctors and nutritionists alike believe that taking vitamins and supplements while pregnant can ensure optimum health for the growing child and mother.

Why take vitamins during pregnancy?

When women find out they are pregnant, it’s very likely that they can be weeks or even months along in gestation.  While the body is preparing for the birth, the nutritional intake of the mother often stays the same.  Therefore, to ensure that the mother and baby’s nutritional needs are met and the baby hits all its developmental key milestones (in relation to growth and formation) during the pregnancy, vitamins are an essential part of the mother’s health regime.

Which vitamins are best to take?

Before conception and in the early stages of pregnancy it is recommended to take 400 micrograms of folate or folic acid.  This supplement is crucial for the baby’s brain and spinal development and is said to prevent neural tube defects such as spina bifida by up to 70%.

Another important supplement to consider taking while pregnant is iodine.  This essential vitamin helps to develop your baby’s nervous system, plays an important role in regulating your thyroid glands and in producing the thyroid hormone thyroxine, which regulates your metabolism.

As the baby grows into the later months, the blood supply will be increased and therefore anaemia can set in.  To avoid this, organic iron supplements such as iron amino acid chelate can be beneficial, as is calcium, as the baby’s bones are forming and will require the additional nutrients.  If additional supplements are required, look for ones that also contain vitamin C as it aids in absorption.  A non-acidic vitamin C such as calcium ascorbate is more gentle on the stomach.

It can sometimes be difficult to maintain a balanced diet fit for pregnancy due to nutritional choices (being vegetarian or vegan), allergies or just not having the time.  In these cases, a multi-vitamin can lift the mother’s nutritional intake.  However, choosing a pregnancy multi-vitamin as opposed to a regular woman’s multi-vitamin is preferred as they often contain more iron and folate and have lower levels of vitamin A which can be potentially harmful to the unborn child.

Finally, it is important throughout the pregnancy to listen to your doctor and your body.  Not only is your body going through an immense change, but so is the baby.  The nutritional plan that is followed during the pregnancy can often impact the baby, not only whilst in the womb, but for years to come.  Make sure that every effort is taken to adhere to the doctor’s advice and follow a well balanced, healthy diet and vitamin supplement plan.

Vitamin Supplements To Rejuvenate The Mind Body & Soul

A well-balanced and healthy diet should ideally provide all the essential vitamins and nutrients to an adult. Strictly speaking, vitamin supplements are not really required and even if there is a deficiency it is always recommended that an individual try and restore the balance by altering diet habits rather than relying on supplements. This is because your diet contains a mixture of vitamins and nutrients that are beneficial collectively. It is not the absorption of a single vitamin in high quantity that benefits the body. Supplements cannot offer the same quality of nutrients that food can provide.
However, there are cases when vitamin supplements become a necessity.
It can happen sometimes that an individual requires a higher quantity of certain vitamins or the body is not able to absorb vitamins directly from food. There are also other considerations that make vitamin supplements mandatory.
Pregnant women, for example, are suggested to take at least 400 micrograms of folic acid on a daily basis and eat foods rich in vitamins. Folic acid is well known for reducing risk of defects in unborn babies. On the other hand women are advised to restrict vitamin A intake because this too affects the normal growth of a baby.
Children between 6 months and 4 years of age should get rich doses of vitamins A, C, and D in the form of supplements. Vitamin A promotes vision and skin development. Vitamin C is good for bones and body tissue. Vitamin D helps with the growth and strengthening of bones and teeth.
Other groups of individuals may be those whose diet is not providing ample nutrition and they too may require vitamin supplements.
Elder people may find it increasingly difficult to keep up cooking routines they followed in their youth. This is especially true of those folks that stay alone. This can cause a severe drop in the nutritional value of their daily diet and they will typically be recommended a multivitamin as a dietary supplement. People in advanced years may also not be very mobile and consequently spend a lot of time indoors, away from the sun. This can result in vitamin D deficiency and that too needs correction through vitamin supplements.
Vegetarians, and especially absolute vegans, need to take vitamin supplements to include the vitamins and nutrients they are not getting by excluding meat and dairy products. Vitamin supplements become a vital need if these deficiencies are not being countered with high-protein foods like beans and pulses.
Individuals who have a high alcohol intake (not necessarily alcoholics) and those who are chronically ill also have need for vitamin supplements.
It is always better to go for a multivitamin rather than a high concentration of a single vitamin. Whatever multivitamin you choose, just make sure that it has 200 micrograms of folate in it (400 micrograms is recommended for females who are or plan to become pregnant).
Single vitamin supplements should only be taken when prescribed by a doctor or registered dietician. This is because vitamins and minerals need a balanced presence in the body. Like deficiency, too much of one vitamin can also create problems.
Beware of overdosing when taking vitamin supplements.

Supplements for Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a very serious disease of your bones that can lead to breakdown of the bone density, causing it to be weak enough that it is susceptible to breakage.  People sometimes do not believe osteoporosis to be serious, since it is a gradual disease with a gradual onset of symptoms. In other words, nobody that gets osteoporosis is metaphorically hit over the head with a crux of issues all at once.  Unlike cancer or another serious illness, there is no immediate life-threatening problem when one develops osteoporosis.  However, being diagnosed with osteoporosis can truly remove the quality of a person’s life. Luckily, there are precautions that can be taken to prevent the development of this disease which generally affects the elderly. It is very important to take measures early in life so as to avoid this progressive disease later on.

Exercise is a great way to fight osteoporosis early in life.  Believe it or not, exercise is critical for the prevention of weak bones and, besides its other positives, this is just another reason why exercise should be a daily part of your routine.  Any weight-bearing exercise is particularly good for osteoporosis, such as weight training, running, or other high-impact sports and activities.  While you have probably heard that running is hard on the knees or hips, in reality your bones are getting stronger the longer one continues this type of activity.  The striking and impact of your foot on the pavement or hard ground actually works to harden the bones to breakage over time.

Weight training is another very popular exercise that is good in preventing osteoporosis.  Weight training has become increasingly more popular over the years, and gym memberships have risen drastically as men, women and children alike can now be found lifting weights for good health.  Weight training also helps to increase bone density, as well as improve your posture, improve your mood, and many report an improvement in self-confidence.

Other than exercise, you can help prevent osteoporosis with certain supplements.  Some of the most common supplements for the prevention of osteoporosis are calcium and vitamin D.  Most people are aware that calcium is important for strong bones and teeth.  They hear it on commercials and their parents tell them from the time they are little to drink their milk. However, most people probably do not take it as seriously as they should.  It really is a good idea to supplement with calcium every day to help prevent osteoporosis down the road.  Calcium supports bone density and bone healing.

While it is true that milk and other dairy products are a good source of calcium, you may not be getting all the calcium you need from these sources.  If you are a vegetarian or vegan especially, who does not consume any dairy products, it is especially important for you to take a calcium supplement.  Broccoli and fortified orange juice contain good amounts of calcium, but you probably cannot stomach enough broccoli to make it worthwhile.

Vitamin D occurs naturally with sunshine, so getting your exercise outdoors can help provide you with the vitamin D you need.  Remember to wear your sunscreen, of course. While outside activity in the sun can be a wonderful and fun source of Vitamin D, you will likely not get enough of it without supplementation.  Some areas of the country are sunnier than others, and then there are the winter months to consider when people tend to stay indoors more often.  With the amount of Vitamin D supplements available, it can easily be incorporated into your daily routine.

In keeping up with your protein consumption, and also increasing your Vitamin C and Vitamin K intake, you can also help keep your bones stronger and prevent osteoporosis.  Again, you can do this by supplementing if you are uncertain as to whether your diet provides sufficient amounts of these important vitamins.

A supplement called glucosamine chondroitin, which is actually two supplements generally sold in a compound as one, is very helpful with joint pain associated with age and increased activity level.  While not directly helpful for the prevention of osteoporosis, it is used to treat osteoarthritis.  You may want to consider adding this supplement to help prevent the aches and pains that sometimes occur in your bones as you age and try to maintain the same level of activity and fitness.

Supplementing with these vitamins, minerals, and aminos can be very beneficial when used in combination with a healthy lifestyle and diet.  Make sure to keep your alcohol consumption in moderation for healthy bones as well as cut out any smoking habit you may have, since smoking and heavy drinking both increase the risk of osteoporosis.  Follow these simple rules and you will increase your chances of having strong, healthy bones for life.

Vegetarians Healthy Eating

There are many potential health benefits to eating a vegetarian diet. The rules still apply with healthy eating, although you should add variety, balance, and moderation. A vegetarian is someone who avoids all types of meat, whether it be hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken, or even fish. Often, the different classifications of vegetarians is based on which foods they do or do not consume. For example, Lacto-ovo vegetarians will avoid animal flesh yet they will eat eggs and most dairy products. A Vegan on the other hand, will avoid all food that has any trace of animal origin.

Because they don’t eat meet, vegetarians will often wonder how they’ll get enough protein. Most people do not know that the average US citizen eats too much protein. Milk and other dairy products are a fantastic way to get protein for people who consider themselves to be lacto-ovo vegetarians. Vegans on the other hand, get their protein from nuts, seeds, and soy products.

Lentils, pinto beans, kidney beans, chickpeas, black beans, and black-eyed peas are just some of the many varieties of beans. Beans are very familiar and versatile. Chili is made with kidney beans, and Mexican cuisine often uses pinto beans (whole or refried) and red beans with rice. Beans can be enjoyed plain, but they are also available with different seasonings to alter or enhance their taste.

Nuts are high in protein, although they deliver a lot more fat than beans, which means you should enjoy them in moderation. Vegetarians have learned that it is possible to obtain the protein of two ounces of meat by eating one cup of cooked beans. If all animal food is cut out of a diet, then there may be a lack of Vitamins D and B12, as well as calcium. For most North Americans, we gain our vitamin B12 primarily through the consumption of animal meat and other products. Vegan sources of vitamin B12 include soy products and other fortified food, vegans may also want to consider supplementing their B12 levels with vitamins.

For calcium, vegans can rely on orange juice or soy milk, as they are fortified with calcium. You can add calcium to your diet from eating beans and leafy green vegetables. Vegetarians, while relying on basic food groups, should be certain to control their intake of vitamins and calcium. Of course, doing this is imperative to living a healthy lifestyle by consuming healthy food. If you can put limits on what you eat, you will live healthy for many years.

New scientific studies are seeing that we even have a genetic code that tells what nutrients we need more of as individuals.

Many companies do not supply vitamins in a form that the body recognizes. They are supplying the active ingredients of a vitamin – not the vitamin itself. For example, what claims to be vitamin C in many supplements is actually ascorbic acid, the active component of vitamin C. But the body only recognises the vitamin not the active compound.

These companies either break the food down, isolate the active chemical from the vitamin complex and mass produce it, or grind up rock and tablet the powder for human consumption. These isolates no longer have what the body needs to deliver the benefits. Without these co-factors, taking them is like sending a letter without an address. Vitamins Minerals – Why Such A Daily Health Importance

Vitamins and minerals are essential for the proper biological function of your body. You need to be taking them in a natural form and not as chemical as most people are. There are two types of vitamin water and fat soluble. Minerals are found higher in some foods than other. For example zinc is very high in oysters and chromium in organic broccoli and also black strap molasses. All diseases can be traced back to one or more mineral deficiencies.

Vitamin and mineral levels have dramatically reduced since the early part of the last century. Scientific studies show that organic foods especially vegetables have significantly higher proportions of nutrients in them than mass produced one. The reason is not so complicated to understand. Children

Any supplement they take should be ‘nutrient dense’, with a lot of nutritional value in small quantities. Most kids nowadays are consuming lots of convenience foods and eating between meals. In fact some researchers are attributing increased sugar consumption to conditions such as ADD. Children should be consuming a kids’ multi-vitamin and mineral that contains chromium (glucose tolerance factor) to balance the sugar in their blood stream.

Stress

People who suffer from prolonged periods of stress have a higher requirement for B vitamins as these are required to boost the nervous an immune systems. Vitamin C is required to stop recurrent colds or flus. If a person is snacking due to lack of time for food preparation or appetite, sodium levels in the blood stream will increase, resulting in increased blood pressure which will exacerbate the problem. They should also increase their essential fatty acid intake through supplementation of omega 3.

Smokers

Smoking creates what are called free radicals which take the form of ions and charged particles that cause damage to cells. In fact every inhalation from a cigarette is reputed to bring 1200 free radicals into the body. By ensuring your vitamin C and antioxidant levels are up, von can decrease their effect, although the best thing is to give up smoking altogether. Studies have shown that even though smokers’ nutrient requirements such as vitamin Care higher, their intake is less than that of non-smokers. Orange fingers are better than yellow ones.

Heavy drinkers

If alcohol replaces food in the diet, nutritional imbalances occur, especially with B vitamins, so drinkers should supplement their diet appropriately. Even though studies have shown that red wine decreases the risk of heart disease, those studies were carried out on men and women over 40. Despite this, in France certain doctors prescribe wines for their health giving benefits.

Pregnancy

Here the requirement for extra nutrients is essential as they become the key factors in metabolism and creation of the baby’s body. In particular optimum levels of vitamin B have been shown to reduce the baby having neural tube defects. A supplement of vitamin B a day is recommended prior to conception and up to the 12th week of pregnancy. To get that amount from food you would have to eat four bowls of fortified cereals or drink 6.5 glasses of orange juice a day.

Anyway make sure you are taking vitamins and minerals in the form nature intended.

One A Day Vitamins – The Best Ones Around

Vitamin and mineral levels have dramatically reduced since the early part of the last century. Scientific studies show that organic foods especially vegetables have significantly higher proportions of nutrients in them than mass produced ones. The reason is not so complicated to understand. Due to mass farming the top soil in such farming is depleted and the land is not given time to lie fallow. The topsoil is very rich in minerals which the plants absorb and phosphorylate. Mass farming stops this process and leaves us all mineral and vitamin deficient.

What you believe are vitamins, are in fact synthetic chemicals, this is one of the reasons, why you should be enhancing your health through the consumption of a multivitamin and mineral in a food matrix.

Mutivitamins

Most of us need to be taking a multi-vitamin and mineral supplement to ensure your health is at an optimum level. Many of the essential nutrients our bodies need cannot be made internally and can no longer be found in most of the foods we are eating. In particular our soils are quite depleted of minerals which can be seen in scientific studies carried out over decades. The intake of vitamins and minerals varies from person to person, but there are some groups who are more nutrient-lacking than others. New scientific studies are seeing that we even have a genetic code that tells what nutrients we need more of as individuals.

Disease Linked To Vitamin Deficiency

All disease on some level is nutrient deficiency disease. When you are low in nutrients disease will arise. You will have immune problems if you are low in zinc, diabetes if low in chromium and cancer if selenium is lacking. These are just a few examples. Therefore taking vitamin and mineral supplements can safeguard your health. However they have to be real ones and not chemicals.

The fastest and quickest way to ensure your health is protected is by taking a daily multi-vitamin and mineral supplement. Supplementing makes up for the nutrients you are losing by skipping meals and depending on convenience foods. Taking them in one pill is most efficient especially if you are in good health generally. One in three people are now regularly taking nutrient supplements. They need to know not to be taking chemicals so pass this info on.

The best types of multi-vitamin and mineral supplements to use are products made to a “food state” standard. With these products you can be guaranteed that your body will absorb them. If you are taking any other multi-supplement make sure it has the minerals selenium and chromium in its formula.

Isolated Synthetic Chemicals

Many of the supplements available are in fact synthetic chemicals masquerading as vitamins, hyped by marketing people to be something they are truly not.

We need minerals that have been phosphorylated by plants into a food structure.

Demand for extra nutrients can be greater if you fall into any of the groups below. Many diseases can be traced to nutrient deficiency. In particular, type two diabetes has been linked to chromium deficiency. If we are not eating organic food which is high in minerals, we might be deficient and compromising our health.
